Eb Bass

John started playing at 10 yrs of age with West Hill School Band, Stalybridge. He joined Mirr Lees Works Band aged 15 on baritone.

He moved to Brighouse & Rastrick in 1971 where he played baritone for 19 years moving onto Eb Bass for 7 years. He spent a total of 26 years with B&R touring Holland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain and the Channel Islands. He has won National, European, British Open and Masters titiles and 7 Yorkshire titles. He was a member of the "Floral Dance" band.

On retiring from B&R he played with Kings of Brass and joined local band Stalybridge playing at the Millenium Dome in 2000. He has since played with the Ashton-u-Lyme Band taking part in the British Opens of 2005/6 and performed in the successful world premier of the musical "King Cotton" at the Lowry Manchester and Liverpool Empire.

John joined the band in 2008 following participation in the US Open with the band.
